Saturday, October 4  (Day 01)
HONOLULU TO HANEDA
Our tour commences this morning when we assemble at the check-in lobby at the airport for baggage check-in procedures.  We will depart Honolulu for Haneda International Airport.  A meal and a snack will be served on board the flight. 

 

Sunday, October 5  (Day 02)
ARRIVE HANEDA TO CHITOSE
Upon arrival at the Haneda Airport, we’ll clear entry and customs procedures, then transfer to the Haneda domestic terminal to check-in for our flight to Chitose International Airport located in Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost and second largest island.  On arrival at Chitose, we’ll check-in for the night at a hotel located within the airport complex.

Monday, October 6  (Day 03)
CHITOSE - FURANO (B)(D)
Peer inside the Chitose River in Japan’s first underwater observation room, packed with salmon pressed against the glass as they migrate upstream at the Chitose Salmon Aquarium.  We’ll continue on to visit Yuni Garden, a British style garden with a revolving cast of seasonal flowers. Weather permitting, the main attraction at this time of the year is to view bright red kochia or broom grass, shaped like a fluffy round imo blooming on the hillside.  We’ll travel to Furano, a scenic town in the heart of Hokkaido, famous for its lavender fields, ski resorts and dairy products.  Enjoy an interesting visit of the Mikasa City Museum, featuring one of the largest ammonites (fossil) collections in Japan.  Almost all the fossils were found in Hokkaido and many were donated from amateur collectors.  We’ll continue on to tour the Furano Cheese Factory, an interesting facility to observe the production of local cheese from behind glass windows, including tasting some cheese samples in the factory shop.  Besides the cheese factory, there is an ice milk factory and we’ll enjoy a hands-on-activity to make ice cream in the hands-on workshop (subject to confirmation.  We’ll check into our hotel in Furano to spend two nights.  Dinner will be provided for you this evening at the hotel.

Tuesday, October 7  (Day 04)
FURANO (B)(D)
Enjoy a bear-finding adventure to encounter wild Hokkaido brown bears at the Sahoro Resort Bear Mountain, a safari-style park in Hokkaido on a Bear Watching Bus through the bear’s habitat.  A high walkway provides an exciting up-close view of these grizzly brown bears roaming around, separated by a glass barrier. We’ll visit the historic Goro’s Stone House, built by Goro Kuroita, featured in the popular drama series ‘Kita Kuni no Kara’, the first home of the Kuroita Family.  The home features the second floor where Jun & Hotaru slept as seen in the drama story.  We’ll enjoy a visit to Furano Marche, a small plaza that is home to shops, eateries, and restaurants.  A great place to pick up some local souvenirs or take a rest while enjoying some of their delicious snacks and desserts.  Dinner will be provided for you this evening

Wednesday, October 8  (Day 05)
FURANO * ASAHIKAWA (B)(D)
Enjoy a view of the Shirogane Blue Pond, a mysterious man-made scenic pond in Biei, created to stop the flow of destructive volcanic mudflows from Mount Tokachi.  The color of the pond ranges from a vibrant turquoise to cobalt blue that is caused by minerals in the water.  Enjoy a fascinating visit of the Miyama Toge Art Park, an amusement complex with a unique  “Trick Art Museum”, featuring a variety of trick art displays, where you can enjoy taking creative photographs with many different backgrounds for some hilarious results.  We’ll continue our drive through the picturesque town of Biei, noted as the ‘town of beautiful hills’.  The landscape of its scenic vast fields, hills and trees has been used as a backdrop for many Japanese commercials and television programs.  We’ll continue on to visit a flower garden on a hill carpeted with seasonal flowers. (weather permitting).  Subject to availability, as an option, we may be able to cruise around the park on the Shikisai Norokko Tractor Bus.  We’ll spend two nights in Asahikawa.  Dinner will be provided for you at the hotel this evening.

Thursday, October 9  (Day 06)
ASAHIKAWA  (B)(D)
We’ll visit the Asahidake Visitor Center located on the slopes of Hokkaido’s highest peak, Mount Asahidake featuring exhibits, videos, and explanations of the history and nature of Daisetsuzan National Park.  Weather permitting, we’ll ride a cable car on the Asahidake Ropeway, to view a breathtaking sight of the mountain and summer alpine flowers.  Enjoy an interesting visit to the Asahiyama Zoo, a unique and interesting zoological garden featuring several enclosures to allow visitors to observe the animals up-close from various angles.  Featured highlights are glass domes in the middle of the polar bear enclosure, a glass tunnel through the penguin pool to observe the bird’s underwater movements and a glass dome to be at eye level with wolves.  Dinner will be provided for you this evening.

Friday, October 10  (Day 07)
ASAHIKAWA * SAPPORO  (B)(D)
This morning, we’ll travel to Sapporo to spend the next three nights in the capital city of Hokkaido.  Enroute, we’ll enjoy a shopping adventure at the bustling Sunagawa Highway Oasis, a large rest-stop with a huge selection of Hokkaido food snacks and souvenirs.  We’ll continue on to visit the Royce Cacao & Chocolate Town, a facility designed to introduce visitors the process of the entire chocolate journey.  Peek through glass windows at the factory to observe the candy production process (subject to availability) and view displays of the many varieties of this popular souvenir candy from Hokkaido.  We’ll continue on to visit Mount Moiwa, a small forested mountain in Sapporo.  We’ll ride the Mount Moiwa Ropeway from the base of the mountain to a transfer station, then travel the rest of the way on a mini cable car to the upper station to enjoy a spectacular view over the city of Sapporo from the observation deck.  We’ll overnight in Sapporo city for three nights.  Dinner will be provided for you this evening at a local restaurant.

Saturday, October 11  (Day 08)
SAPPORO * OTARU * SAPPORO  (B)
We’ll travel to Otaru, a charming port city noted for its historic Otaru Canal adorned with Victorian-style street lamps & old warehouses, providing a nostalgic atmosphere.  Many of the buildings along the canal has been restored into museums and shops.  Enjoy strolling along Sakaimachi-hondori, a preserved merchant street in the center of the town featuring sweet shops, glassware shops, and a unique music box museum with a wide selection of elegant music boxes.  Enjoy a hands-on-activity to decorate your own music box to create your own special souvenir.  Otaru is also noted for its intricate glassware featuring one of its most popular item - drip-free soy sauce bottles.  We’ll visit the Shiroi Koibito Park, a theme park operated by Ishiya, a popular local cookie company in Sapporo.  The company’s flagship product is Shiroi Koibito cookies - two thin butter cookies with a layer of white chocolate in between, one of the most popular snack from Hokkaido to bring home.  We may have an opportunity to observe the cookie production in the factory through glass windows.  Subject to confirmation, we may be able to participate on a hands-on-activity to create your own cookie.  Dinner will be on your own this evening to try some of the local specialties of Hokkaido.

Sunday, October 12  (Day 09)
SAPPORO  (B)
Enjoy a visit of the Mount Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium, a facility that was used in competitions at the 1972 Winter Olympics.  The Okurayama Observatory is accessed via a chair lift to the top to enjoy spectacular views of Sapporo.  At the foot of the ski jump hill, the interesting Sapporo Olympic Museum displays exhibits about the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics, and offers a variety of sport simulation games like ski jumping, speed skating and hockey for a fun experience.  Enjoy a visit of the recently opened AOAO Aquarium in Hokkaido.  One of the main attraction here is a penguin habitat housing featuring a colony of these adorable flightless birds and you’ll be able to interact and spend time with these fascinating creatures.  Another interesting attraction is a digital art exhibit dedicated to the Shiretoko Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Marine creatures elegantly swim by, projected on a large screen and onto the floor space, creating an experience that makes you feel as if you are underwater with them.  Enjoy dinner on your own this evening.

Monday, October 13  (Day 10)
SAPPORO - CHITOSE TO HANEDA  (B)
The morning is free at your leisure until we transfer to the Chitose International Airport for our flight to Haneda Airport.  On arrival, we’ll transfer by shuttle bus to the Haneda International Terminal for our flight to Honolulu, arriving in the morning on the same day due to the crossing of the International Date Line.  A late meal will be served on board the flight.
